Finnish soprano Hanna-Leena Haapamäki received her Master of Music degree  in 2005 from the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, where she studied with Ritva Auvinen She further attended master classes with Renata Scotto, Irina Gavrilovic, Gundula Janowitz and Udo Reinemann. She has also had the privilege of working with composer Betsy Jolas in a contemporary music master class in France.

Ms. Haapamäki came second at the Lappeenranta Singing Competition in 2004 and received the Finnish National Opera special prize. She was a finalist of the Timo Mustakallio competitons and won the third prize at the Singing Competition in  Kangasniemi.

In Fall 2005 the young artist made her debut at the Finnish National Opera as Fiakermilli in Arabella. Her repertoire also includes Maria in Rautavaara’s Rasputin (FNO), Oscar/Un ballo in maschera (Oulu), the title role in Janacek’s The cunning little Vixen, Papagena/Die Zauberflöte, Serafina in Donizetti’s Il campanello, Venus/Orfeus in der Unterwelt, OlympiaLles contes d’Hoffmann as well as Amor in Monteverdi’s L’Incoronazione di Poppea. The FNO also engaged her as a cover soloist for several productions and for Isän tyttö in 2009.

Hanna-Leena Haapamäki has has worked with such conductors as John Storgårds, Mikko Franck, Okko Kamu, Ralf Weikert, Howard Arman, Sian Edwards and Arvo Volmer. She has sung concerts with the Helsinki Symphony Orchestra, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, the symphony orchestras of Tapiola, Lahti, Joensuu and Oulu as well as the Helsinki Baroque Orchestra and the St. Petersburg’s Chamber Orchestra, among others.  

Ms. Haapamäki’s concert repertoire includes such compositions as the passions of St. John and St. Matthew as well as the mass in b-minor by Bach, Händel’s Messiah, Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang, Mozart’s Requiem, mass in c-minor, Exultate, jubilate as well as Pergolesi’s Stabat mater, and Tippett’s A child of our time. In summer 2005 she performed in the finnish premiere of Schumann’s Faust-Scenes together with the Philharmonic Orchestra in Turku.
