A resident of Helsinki and Berlin, Finnish-born soprano Anna-Kristiina Kaappola pursued her studies at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. She then joined the Opera Studio of the Finnish national Opera and later on the permanent ensemble of the Finnish National Opera where she  has been performing an impressive number of parts until today. Today, the operatic and concert repertoire of her versatile soprano encompasses a wide range within the lyrical and coloratura repertoire, including any style between old and contemporary music.

Ms. Kaappola’s first guest engagements have taken her to Frankfurt, Riga, Tel Aviv and to the Savonlinna Opera Festival, where she has been singing regularly since the early Ninetees. Her international career took an important turn in 2003 while guesting as Queen of the Night at the Deutsche Oper as well as the Staatsoper unter den Linden, and namely as Konstanze at the Konzerthaus Berlin together with the Academy for Old Music. Subesequently a fruitful contact has been established with conductor Jos van Immerseel and his ensemble Anima Eterrna in Brussels. Today Ms Kaappola is a much sought-after Queen of the Night, with regular performances namely at the Staatsoper Berlin as well as at the Deutsche Oper (lately at the Waldbühne Open Air in july 2007),  in Leipzig, Dresden, Frankfurt und Hamburg.

House debuts since 2004 have included Europa riconosciuta (Salieri) at La Scala in Milan under the baton of Riccardo Muti who also conducted her Magic Flute in Salzburg, as well as Queen of the Night in Covent Garden, at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris together with Jean-Chistophe Spinosi, in Toulouse and eventually at the New York Metropolitan Opera in November 2007.

Besides Corinna/Viaggio a Reims, Fiakermilli/Arabella, Lisette/La Rondine, Marzelline/Fidelio, Zauberflöte, Zaide and a new procuction of the Merry Widow at the Finnish National Opera, Ms. Kaappola’s latest opera contracts have been Konstanz/Die Entführung aus dem Serail in Helsinki, Leipzig and Dresden; Adele/Die Fledermaus in Dresden (December 2007) and of course The Magic Flute in Berlin, Hamburg, Leipzig, Covent Garden (February 2008) and Paris (July 2008), again under the baton of Jean-Christophe Spinosi.

Ms. Kaappola is a quite active concert singer. Since 2006, her engagements have included Hugo Wolf, Italian Songbook in Germany and Finland, notably at the Savonlinna Opera Festival; Joonas Kokkonen’s Requiem, the 8th Symphony at the Helsinki Festival with Esa-Pekka Salonen conducting,  Como una ola de fuerza e luz by Luigi Nono and Verdi’s Quattro pezzi sacri together with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra and Lothar Zagrosek, concerts and recordings of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony as well as further concerts in 2008 with Anima Eterna; Strauss’ Four Last Songs together with Klauspeter Seibel and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra in New Orleans (2009), and many others.
