Finnish mezzo soprano Niina Keitel pursued her vocal studies with Mirja Klemi at the Sibelius-Academy in Helsinki and received her master of music degree in 2005. Since then, her teacher has been Elisabeth Werres in Berlin.

After first experiences on stage at the Aleksander Theater in Helsinki, the Music Academy in Savonlinna and the Vaasa Opera, in 2004 she made her debut at the  Finnish National Opera in Helsinki in a children’s opera by Markus Fagerudd. Subsequently she performed several parts at the FNO in the 2006/07 season.

Her repertoire includes such parts as Dorabella/Cosí fan tutte, Zweite Dame/Die Zauberflöte, Nicklausse/Les Contes d’Hoffmann and the Second Lady in Kokkonen’s The Last Temptations, and she also performed Berlioz’ Les nuits d’été together with Pori Sinfonietta, Pergolesi’s Stabat mater and Mozart’s Requiem with the Murmansk Filharmonia, among others.

Since the 2007/08 season Niina Keitel has been singing in the ensemble of the Darmstadt Opera, with new productions of Adriana Lecouvreur and Apollo und Hyazinth as well as in Parsifal. She further performed Marzelline/Le nozze di Figaro at the Frankfurt Opera and in a coproduction of Joneleit’s Piero- Ende der Nacht with the Biennale in Munich. After a successful debut with Rigoletto at the Savonlinna Opera Festival in summer 2008, productions in Darmstadt will include Hänsel und Gretel, Parsifal, Die verkaufte Braut,  as well as role debuts as Maddalena in Rigoletto and Magdalene in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.
