Born in Finland, Markus Nieminen studied at the Sibelius Academy in as well as at the Conservatory in Vienna A winner of several national competitions, he also received the Eberhard Waechter Medal. After an engagement at the Vienna State Opera from 2001 till 2005, he is today working at a freelance.
Markus Nieminen feels a special affinity towards lied and oratorios, and he regularly appears in interational concerts. His concert repertoire includes several Mahler song cycles as well as Zemlinsky’s Lyrische Symphonie, to name but a few.
Guest engagements have taken him to Merano, St. Gallen, Hamburg, the Volksoper in Vienna and namely to the Finnish National opera, where he has been performing such parts as Papageno, Conte Almaviva/Le nozze di Figaro and Guglielmo/Cosí fan tutte. His engagements until 2008 include Carmen in Savonlinna und Helsinki, Penthesilea in Dresden.
