Jyrki Korhonen studied at the Sibelius Academy and at the Zurich Opera Studio. Between 1993 and 2000, he was a soloist at the Wiesbaden and Darmstadt Operas, and in 2001 he was engaged as a soloist at the Finnish National Opera.

He has appeared as a guest artist at the Savonlinna Opera Festival, the Bayreuth Music Festival, the Bavarian and Vienna State Operas, and in Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen, London, Amsterdam, Paris, Marseilles, Lyon, Rouen, Hanover, Berlin, Stuttgart, Rome, Milan, Palermo, Pisa, Lucerne, Zurich, Basel, Geneva, Madrid, Athens, Lisbon, Budapest, Tokyo, Cologne, Hamburg, St Petersburg and Santiago de Chile.

Jyrki Korhonen's roles include Osmin in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte, the Commendatore in Don Giovanni and Bartolo in Le nozze di Figaro by Mozart; Rocco in Fidelio by Beethoven; Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor by Donizetti; Arkel in Pelleas and Melissande by Debussy, Don Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia by Rossini; Pater Guardian in La forza del destino, Ramfis in Aida, Banquo in Macbeth and Sparafucile in Rigoletto by Verdi; Der Baron auf Lerchenau in Rosenkavalier by Strauss; Hermann in Tannhäuser, Titurel in Parsifal, Fafner and Fasolt in Rheingold, Hunding in Die Walküre, König Marke in Tristan und Isolde, Fafner in Siegfried and Hagen in Götterdämmerung by Wagner; Gremin in Evgeny Onegin by Tchaikovsky; Dosifei in Khovanshchina and Pimen in Boris Godunov by Mussorgsky; Colline in La Bohème by Puccini; and Zargo in the Finnish premiere of Kaija Saariaho's Adriana Mater .

Jyrki Korhonen's roles during the 2014-2015 season at the Finnish National Opera include Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte, Colline in La Boheme, Arkel in Pelleas and Melissande, Baron Ochs auf Lerchenau in Rosenkavalier, Pogner in Meistersinger, König Marke in Tristan und Isolde and Bartolo in La nozze di Figaro.
In summer 2015 Jyrki Korhonen sings Pimen in Boris Godunov at Savonlinna Opera Festival.

Jyrki Korhonen has appeared with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Helsinki Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Concertgebouw Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Giuseppe Verdi Symphony Orchestra of Milan and the orchestra of the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, and he has worked with distinguished conductors such as Sakari Oramo, Daniel Barenboim, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Mikko Franck, Antonio Pappano, Zubin Mehta, Mark Albrecht, Leif Segerstam, Christian Thielemann, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Peter Schneider, Simon Rattle, Michael Guttler, Ralf Weikert, James Conlon, Jun Märkl, Eri Klas, Alberto Zedda, Julia Jones, Adam Fisher, Okko Kamu and Osmo Vänskä.

His discography includes Rautavaara's Vigilia (1998) and solo songs (2003), Aulis Sallinen's The King Goes forth to France, Sibelius' Kullervo with the Lahti Symphony Orchestra and Wagner's operas Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (Bayreuth) and Die Feen.
